Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd (TKM) launched the Toyota University Cricket Championship (TUCC), a T20 cricket tournament to promote university-level cricket in India.

The TUCC initiative is supported by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi Television (NDTV), and The Ministry of Human Resource Department. Eight Indian universities will compete for the TUCC 2013 Championship, in two groups of four teams each, with each group member playing all other teams within the group once. Renowned cricketers will serve as team ambassadors for individual teams and will mentor them at special camps. TUCC will use on-ground activities to connect with over two hundred Universities and twenty lakh students across India. Live musical performances and carnivals will also be held after the matches.

TKM’s Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Mr Sandeep Singh explained that the TUCC venture was in line with Toyota’s global ‘WAK U DOKI’ philosophy, meaning a sense of ‘excitement, joy, and fun’. Promotional activities for the TUCC will run from 17th February to 10th March 2013, and prizes include an Etios Liva for the winning participant from the audience and an Etios for the Man of the Series.
