Just about five months after its launch in the market, the Renault Scala gets an automatic transmission. How’s it? Here’s a brief.

Renault are most definitely on a roll in the Indian market. Riding the chariot of success with their recently launched Duster, the company is certain of setting their feet strong in the country very soon. That’s why, to increase their presence further and to strengthen their portfolio in the Indian automotive market, the are all set to launch the Automatic variant of their five month old launch, the Renault Scala. Renault-Nissan’s technology sharing is where the transmission comes from. Sharing the X-tronic CVT transmission with cousin Nissan Teana, the car comes with the same 1498-cc petrol mill as its petrol counterpart, but promises to return better than the manual variant (promised fuel efficiency- 17.97 km/l, as per ARAI figures). No changes have been made to the interior or exterior of the car. Company will launch the Scala Automatic in two variants- the RxL and RxZ, with differences like Start-Stop and leather upholstery between the two. Up for a launch by the end of this month, the car is expected to be priced a lakh of rupees more than the manual variant. Serving as a humble companion uptil the Kashid beach, the Scala Automatic sure was fun to drive and for a detailed first drive report, grab a February issue of CAR India.

Also, the company announced that their launches for the year 2013 would just be upgrades of their current models in the market, so as to make their presence stronger. No new launches are up on cards from the Renault clan.
