The German sportscar marque timed the grand showcase of their second-generation Cayman with the Los Angeles Motor Show and added another gem to their line-up of performance-oriented sports cars.

Porsche’s new mid-engined coupé now comes with a re-designed platform, thus bringing along a better weight distribution and lighter body now. Set to be built at the company’s Zuffenhausen factory, the new Cayman receives different proportions than all the Caymans we have known and seen so far, with more cabin space, a slight dropin the overall height and slightly different dimensions. The distinguishing feature of the car vis-a-vis its predecessors, however, remains its day-time running LEDs, which lend the car a much more chic look.

Apart from all such cosmetic changes, the car now comes with an option of two flat-six engines;a 2.7-litre mill (279 PS and 290 Nm, 12 PS more and 9.4 Nm less than the older 2.9-litre engine) and a re-worked 3.4-litre engine (330 PS and 370 Nm, seven PS more than the old engine). The choice has been extended between two gear transmissions too: a standard six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Like the Porsche Boxster, the new Cayman also gets an electromechanical steering system and comes with an option of PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) that offers differing damper, throttle and steering characteristics as per the driver’s requirements.
