Next week at the Qatar Motor Show, the Arab world will unveil its first ever hypercar. Coming in from the land of skyscrapers, oil and an immense passion for expensive cars, this new hypercar has been christened the Lykan Hypersport. This dark theme inspired car is all set to go wheel-to-wheel with the Bugattis and Koenigseggs of the world. It comes with a 760PS, twin-turbo flat-six wedged in behind the driver and can hit the century mark in a mere 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 389 Km/h. There’s precious little info about its makers, except that it is a Lebanese company with ties to Magna Steyr Italia, Studiotorino, RUF Automobile, Viotti and ID4MOTION.
Besides being extremely fast, this is also a luxurious car – so luxurious that it borders on gaudiness. It’s fitted with diamond-encrusted LED lights, gold-stitched leather, suicide doors and a state-of-the-art 3D Virtual Holographic Display with Tactile Interaction and a revolutionary LD4Motion interactive dashboard. To top it off, the car comes with a 24-hour dedicated concierge service and a free $200,000 special edition Cyrus Klepcy watch. With only seven units scheduled for production, and each one costing a staggering-$3.4 million, the Lykan Hypersport will be exclusive beyond the reaches of the extremely wealthiest and well-connected. Like, err, oil sheikhs. The only question is, will it be dynamically in the league of hypercar greats like Pagani and Bugatti or will it just turn out to be a sad example of one’s reach exceeding his grasp?
