Audi_Sport_Quattro_Concept_ExteriorsJust days before the Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi has released the details of its upcoming Sport Quattro Concept. This new concept is based on the famous sport quattro that was shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 1983.

It is a bold and stylish concept that has strong resemblance to the car that started it all. The bold front end with its rectangular headlamp unit that feature the famous Matrix LEDs, single-frame hexagonal grille and the huge side air intakes with carbon fibre blades looks like a piece of art. The designers have worked hard to recreate the famous side profile of the original car although with a modern twist. The strong angular lines and the muscular fenders along with the so-called “Blisters” above the fenders and the flat C-Pillar take you back in time to the 1980’s. Elements like the huge and beautiful 21 inch wheels and the exit vent behind the front wheel are touches that add the oomph factor to the overall design. From the back, it looks even more gorgeous with a strong but small spoiler and the beautifully designed tail lamps giving it an exotic look. And the twin round exhaust tips just adds to the drama.

On the inside it looks pretty futuristic. Simple yet elegant and sporty is the theme that dominates the cabin. The small sports steering wheel features an array of buttons that control various aspects of the car. But the centre stage belongs to the digital instrument console that is dominated by a huge tachometer. The dashboard has a very minimalistic design but it looks quite amazing and the quattro lettering on the right side simply takes the simple design to another level. The centre console has a tiny display area that is touch sensitive and the most noticeable thing here is the stubby gear lever that takes the centre stage on the centre console. A huge MMI dial is present right behind the gear lever.

On the power front, the sport quattro concept has a lot of juice to bring tears to your eyes. The combination of electric and gasoline power makes this 1850 kg car a speed missile that can achieve a top speed of over 300 km/h. Gasoline power comes in from the 4.0-litre twin turbo charged TFSI V8 motor whereas the electric power is supplied by a disc-shaped electric motor that acts as the transmission. Combined these two power plants produce a total of 710 PS of power and a eye-watering 1100 Nm of turning force. Audi claims that this much power is enough to propel the sport quattro concept from 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. But that’s not it. Audi also claims that the sport quattro concept is also capable of travelling 40 kilometre on just a litre of fuel, which is quite remarkable for such a powerful hybrid.

The sport quattro concept has three driving modes first of which is the pure electric driving. On this setting the car can travel for a full 50 kilometres before the 4.0-litre V8 takes over. Second mode is the hybrid mode in which the car can compute environmental and route data to strike a balance between the use of electric power and gasoline power. Thus providing optimal fuel efficiency. The third mode is what would drive petrol heads crazy. The sport mode is when the sport quattro unleashes all its horses to let you enjoy the excellent four wheel grip while you go around a corner at crazy speeds. But even in this mode the computer do not cut the electric motor. Instead, the motor provides a boost whenever needed and the energy management system ensures that the battery never runs dry under whatever situation.

Audi will be showcasing this brand new quattro concept at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show and we will bring you more on this and other offering from Audi at the Frankfurt show.
