Smallest V12 webWhen you think of a V12 engine, you usually imagine a fire-breathing, powerhouse of a motor with at least 500 horses on tap.

And we wouldn’t blame you. Most V12 engines are found in exotic supercars which go as fast as they look. However, it isn’t all V12 engines which are big and mega-powerful. There are some smaller examples as well. How small, you ask?

This little video caught our attention recently and we just had to out it out there. José Manuel Hermo Barreiro, “Patelo”, is a pensioner from Galicia (Spain). He’s a retired naval mechanic has built what is probably the smallest V12 engine in the world. This is one of his creations which simply took our breath away. It is a tiny little engine built from the ground up using aluminium, bronze and stainless steel. It features twelve working cylinders displacing 12cc and uses compressed air injection to operate. He has crafted all 261 components of the engine, but the 222 screws required were purchased off the shelf. He had to draw the line somewhere!
