6. Dodge Viper
One of the most iconic names from across the Atlantic, the Viper was known for its larger-than-life motor and smile-inducing price-tag. A proper, curvaceously designed sports car for the masses with huge power and immensely quick acceleration off the line, the Viper was one of the fastest production cars of all time. What began as an 8.0-litre V10 with 400 PS and 630 Nm grew to 8.3 litres with 500 PS and 712 Nm – the same spec unit seen on the wild Dodge Tomahawk – before growing again to 8.4 litres and producing 600 PS and 760 Nm in the next Vipers to come, notably the SRT/10. Following changes in the legislation, the Viper was withdrawn from production, but, under FIAT ownership of Chrysler, resurfaced as the SRT Viper with contemporary styling and a more potent motor, before becoming a Dodge again for 2015. There’s still an 8.4-litre V10, but now with 645 PS and 813 Nm; the torquiest naturally-aspirated motor in production.
Essentials: 8.4-litre, naturally aspirated, 645 PS, 813 Nm, Rs 54 lakh onwards (plus taxes)
