9. Audi RS 6 quattro C6
Produced between 2008 and 2010, what we consider rather short-lived, the second generation RS 6 was offered in both Avant (estate) and saloon guises. However, from the total production run of 8,000 cars, 6,500 were Avant models. The 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V10 – or BiTurbo TFSI in Audi-speak – made 579 PS and 650 Nm, which, when mated to the standard quattro all-wheel driveline, translated into superlative performance figures. This engine wasn’t seen in any other car in the VW Group. The naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine in the first Lamborghini Gallardo was a completely different unit, though the RS 6’s unit is often mistaken to be the BiTurbo version of the Lamborghini unit.
Essentials: 5.0-litre, BiTurbo, 579 PS, 650 Nm, Rs 1.3 crore (no longer available)
