Renault has big plans for the Indian car market, as can be seen by its presence in multiple segments – small hatch, midsize sedan, premium sedan, and compact SUV.

What was missing from its arsenal so far though was a MPV, but fear not – the company is believed to be readying the Lodgy MPV for the Indian market. The Lodgy is a product from the Dacia stable and is based on the Duster platform. From a distance, it looks as slab-sided as the Evalia from Renault’s sister company Nissan, but close inspection reveals some interesting design touches such as mildly flared wheel arches, an aggressive front end, and interestingly, tail lamps housed in the pillars so as to save on wiring costs.

As with most MPVs, the Lodgy is expected to offer flexible seating for seven with spacious interiors, multiple cubbyholes, and other storage spaces. Company sources indicate that the interiors will be modified for the Indian market to incorporate the much-loved beige color along with new interior trim, instrument panel, and rear AC vents.

The European version is powered by the 1.5 litre Renault turbodiesel engine offering 106.2PS at 4,000RPM and 247Nm at 2,250RPM, though the Indian version will likely be tuned more for economy than outright power. As with all Renaults, the Lodgy is also expected to feature excellent ride and handling.

The Lodgy is expected to slot in below the Duster and close to the price band of the Maruti Ertiga. Renault is rumored to be planning a 2014 Auto Expo debut and a subsequent launch in the Indian market.
