McLaren-Honda_webThe legendary partnership will once again grace the world of Formula 1 as McLaren and Honda officially confirmed their alliance for the 2015 Formula 1 season.

Honda last competed in Formula One in the 2008 season, with a lack of results leading to the automotive giant pulling out of the sport. However, Honda have happily announced that the turn Formula 1 has taken to more environment-conscious engineering will inspire the company to further develop their already advanced technologies.

The online world was abuzz with activity with Honda and McLaren both confirming their partnership on Twitter, one of the leading social media platforms. The two McLaren drivers both tweeted their pleasure at the announcement. Jenson Button tweeted, “Welcome back Honda. Exciting news this morning about our new engine supplier and partner for 2015.” An excited Sergio Perez stated, “A dream to race for McLaren Honda! I’m sure soon I will reach my target with McLaren!”

McLaren-Honda dominated Formula 1 from 1988 to 1991, winning four consecutive driver’s world titles – three with Ayrton Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and one with Alain Prost in 1989.

McLaren will continue to use Mercedes engines next year, with the new 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 units coming in. McLaren have not had the success they would have expected this year. With five races already down this season, the team is in sixth place in the constructor’s championship with just 29 points.
