Tata-owned Land Rover have officially launched their locally built Freelander for the Indian market.

At an event held in Mumbai recently, Land Rover officials revealed that this step has been taken because of the increased demand for the vehicle. The locally produced Freelander 2 will be put together at the Pune plant, with new exterior design features and fresh interiors. Sporting an array of new equipments like passive start, rear view camera, integrated navigation system, electric parking brake, Xenon headlamps with daytime running lights, electrically adjustable front seats and front arm rests as standard, the Freelander 2 is a much more luxurious package than before.

Technically the new Freelander 2 will remain very much the same and house the same 2.2 litre diesel mill. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Rohit Suri, VP, JLR India said, “The Freelander 2 has proved to be extremely popular with Indian customers and this new model brings a more premium look and feel to the overall driving experience. This is another step forward for the Freelander 2, where outstanding standard equipment levels, superb design, safety and all-terrain capability continue to set the standards in this class.”

The Freelander 2 will be priced at INR 38.67 lakh (Ex showroom, Mumbai) for the TD4 SE variant and INR 43.92 lakh (Ex showroom, Mumbai) for the SD4 HSE version.
