Jaguar_XJ_L_I4_1_webJaguar are set to introduce a new engine variant of their XJ L luxury saloon in India. The new version will be powered by a 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and deliver the performance needed to get a move on in the large XJ L (long wheelbase) model.

Jaguar has realised that not all luxury saloon buyers want maximum performance; many prefer the cosseting surrounds and plushness of the interiors. To provide a solution for buyers from this specific market, the XJ L will now be offered, in the ‘Portfolio’ trim level, with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine featuring turbocharging and direct injection. This is the same engine in the Range Rover Evoque Si4. It makes 240 PS at 5,500 rpm and 340 Nm of torque from just 1,750 rpm. An 8-speed automatic handles transmission duties and allows for some eye-opening performance for a car of its size. 0-100 km/h takes just 7.5 seconds and that acceleration is followed by a top speed of 225 km/h. The engine will also deliver fuel economy figures which won’t be too pressing on the pocket.

Jaguar will also replace their naturally-aspirated 385-PS 5.0-litre V8 with their new 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine making 340 PS at 6,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque from 3,500 rpm, as part of their global replacement strategy.

When contacted following the update on their Indian website, Jaguar-Land Rover confirmed that the models were incoming, but no pricing details had been announced yet.Jaguar_XJ_L_I4_2_web
