Home / News / BMW and Daimler collaborate to design Visio.M urban EV

VisioM_555BMW and Daimler – two German automobile giants – have come together to design an urban electric vehicle (EV), named the Visio.M.

The German Federal Ministry established a $14 million startup fund to initiate the Visio.M project for Education and Research (BMBF). Exact details of the Visio.M – currently under testing – are not known, but the project had set a goal of a sub-1,000 pound weight and 20.2 PS of max power. The car uses carbonfibre to negate the weight of the batteries, with redesigned ABS, seatbelts, and drivetrain components saving another 15% weight.

The car currently is not very viable in the marketplace due to the extensive use of carbonfibre, so here’s hoping that carbonfibre becomes significantly cheaper so that we see the Visio.M concept becoming a reality – and soon!
