The all-new Renault Triber sub-four-metre seven-seater has been launched. This car is Renault’s ticket into the B-segment in India. There are a total of four variants on offer and the pricing begins at Rs 4.95 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 6.49 lakh; all prices are ex-showroom.
Renault claim that the Triber has been designed and developed specifically for India. The “Triber” name is inspired by the word ‘tribe’ which talks about the car’s virtues of ferrying a group of people around and supporting multiple lifestyles.
The Renault Triber looks smart and sleek, thanks to the car’s taut lines, rather steeply-inclined windscreen, and rear window with a tapering roof-line toward the rear. The Triber gets a set of projector headlamps and also sports LED daytime running lights circled in chrome, and black headlamp masks, all of which add to the car’s sophisticated look. It also comes with a triple-edge chrome front grille that extends to the car’s headlamps. At the rear, the design language is carried on with a set of two-part eagle-beak tail-lamps, that extend to outwards and taper towards the centre of the tail-gate. Other design details includes a sculpted bonnet, front and rear skid-plates, roof rails and blacked-out wheel arches, all of which combine to give the car a rugged appeal and augment its capability.
Inside, the Renault Triber cabin exudes a warm ambience thanks to the two-tone colour scheme which transitions from deep black for the upper section of the dashboard to a beige-and-white tone for the lower section and the door trims. The car also features chrome garnish on the air-vents, air-conditioning control dials and the start/stop button, along with silver trim-accents on the dashboard.
The new Renault Triber is based on the Kwid’s CMF-A (Compact Modular Front) platform and is powered by the new ENERGY 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, VVT petrol engine; similar to the unit in the Clio. It is capable of producing 72 PS at 6,250 rpm and has a peak torque of 96 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The Renault Triber is now available with a five-speed manual transmission with a five-speed EASY-R automated manual transmission (AMT) set to follow.
The new Renault Triber is not a stretched version of the Kwid, but is said to be designed from scratch to give it flexible seating and a spacious cabin (Also read: 2019 Renault Kwid Gets New Infotainment System and Safety Kit). The Renault Triber offers sliding, reclining and folding as well as tumbling second-row seats, and also benefits from large door opening angles. The Triber also features industry-first EasyFix seats, which allow for easy handling and removal of the two independent third-row seats. The Renault Triber offers a total of 100-plus different configurations for immense flexibility.
The Renault Triber boasts of a voluminous boot, a USP of the car. It offers best-in-class boot capacity of 625 litres in the five-seat configuration, with that going to 320 litres for the six-seat configuration and 84 litres for the seven-seat configuration.
The new Renault Triber is manufactured at the brand’s plant in Chennai. The pricing for the variants are as follows
RxE – Rs 4.95 lakh
RxL – Rs 5.49 lakh
RxT – Rs 5.99 lakh
RxZ – Rs 6.49 lakh
