Plagued by a rather unsuccessful run in the Indian market, American car manufacturer, General Motors have hinted at pulling the plug. Currently, they are looking at using their resources in India to cater to their export market.

Sources say that General Motors may take a formal stand on the matter in a month. The decision to end all production in the company’s Halol plant by the end of this month adds credibility to the rumour. Last week, the plant stopped production of their flagship sedan, the Cruze; much to the disappointment of the ‘diesel-rocket’ lovers out there. By the end of the month, the brand is also going to shut down production of their utility vehicle, the Tavera. Word on the street is that the Talegaon plant has shut down the production of all right-hand drive vehicles. The left-hand drive Beat is the only vehicle that is currently being manufactured; probably for export to Mexico.

General Motors’ representatives have confirmed that they will continue to monitor the Indian market closely. They believe that their portfolio needs a complete review before they decide on their next move. With cars like the legendary Corvette, the Camaro and even the Silverado in their stable, car enthusiasts will be miffed to see them leave and will fervently pray for their quick return.
