2016 Lancer GT

Mitsubishi Motors have revealed their 2016 Lancer and it looks like something we’d want here.

The EVO may be bidding adieu, but the Lancer name lives on. This form, we think, is something worthy of the name too. The new Lancer has been officially announced and Mitsubishi will have it on sale in the US from a $17,595 (Rs 11.5 lakh approx).

The new Mitsubishi Lancer looks more evolutionary, but is still very handsome. The shark-nose grille with wide-eyed headlamps and sporty stance remain intact. Under the bonnet is the familiar (from the Outlander) 2.4-litre petrol engine with 170 PS and 226 Nm, paired to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic. The excellent All-Wheel Control (AWC) is also on offer. Let’s not forget, they also have a very capable 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, but, given the current state of things, we’ll wait to see what the official announcement says.

The new Lancer boasts of an improved driver interface and new connectivity options, not to mention LED daytime lights, and a whole slew of automatic applications from the headlamps and wipers to the climate control. The noted 710-Watt Rockford-Fosgate audio system with 6.1″ screen is also on the spec sheet. In ‘GT’ guise, the Lancer features 18″ alloy wheels and a rear wing spoiler. Let’s hope we see it in India soon.
