Home / News / Volvo step up their game with 2014 model lines

Volvo_V40_CCVolvo have been on a roll lately; first introducing the new V40 and V40 Cross Country compact models and then refreshing six models in their line-up.

Now though, there’s even more good news for those planning to choose a V40 or V40 CC. Volvo will offer the 2014 V40 with even more driveline options. Firstly, the 180 PS T4 petrol option will have an all-wheel-drive option. Secondly, there is a new T2 petrol engine option. The 1.6L turbocharged, direct injection inline-4 puts out 120 PS and 240 Nm of torque in this new guise. Thirdly, the D2 diesel model gets an automatic option. The manual version benefits from improved fuel consumption and even lower CO2 emissions at 88 g/km.

Volvo have also introduced several new technologies to make their cars even safer. The V40 is the first to feature a Pedestrian Airbag mounted under the bonnet; providing increased protection while minimising injuries in the event of a collision. The Active High Beam Control enhances visibility after dark by allowing the main beam to be used permanently. When it detects oncoming motorists, it automatically shades out the required part of the beam to prevent dazzling them. It will be available in the S60 and XC60 from late-2013. Another innovative technology, which they had shown in Geneva, was their Cyclist Detection with Full Auto Brake. This prevents unnecessary incidents with cyclists when they swerve out in front of the car.

In India, the V40 Cross Country will be launched later this year. It will arrive with the D3 powertrain, a 2.0L inline-5 turbo-diesel making 150 PS and 350 Nm of torque, and have a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The facelifted S60, S80 and XC60 will also make their way here very shortly.
