Mercedes-Benz unveil SL65 AMG
MERCEDES-BENZ ARE GEARING UP to launch the 2013 version of their fl agship SL65 AMG at the New York Auto Show this month.
The SL65 is set to reclaim its position at the top of the new SL Class line-up, which currently consists of the regular SL and SL63 AMG models.
The 2013 SL65 AMG will be powered by a turbocharged V12 engine, tuned to deliver a heady 630 PS and a 1,000 Nm of torque. While those fi gures may not represent a mammoth increase over the output of the previous model, there are several key refi nements, mainly the adoption of an all-aluminium body, which allows the new car to deliver better performance, refi nement and overall fuel effi ciency.
AMG quotes a 0-96 km/h time of 3.9 seconds, a top speed of 300 km/h and a curb weight of 1,950 kilograms – about 115 kg lighter than the previous iteration. All the necessary bells and whistles as befi tting the three-pointed star are present here, including Magic Sky Roof, Active Body Control, speed-sensitive steering wheel, sport suspension, Airscarf, surround sound system from Bang & Olufsen, Mercedes COMAND system and leather trimmed interior. Externally, it looks identical to the SL63 AMG in every way save the conjoined-twin quad tailpipe design as opposed to the SL63’s four individual pipes. Although the price is yet to be announced, we may expect it to be in the range of Rs 1.2 crore.
