Chevrolet ready to launch new diesel variant of the hatch
CHEVROLET ARE ready to launch A new variant of their existing small car.
The Beat is about to get a new heart and here are the complete details of the new variant slated for a mid-July launch.
The peppy hatch is now going to get an oil-burner under its hood that will displace 936 cc volume.
Its peak power is expected to be in the range of 55-60 PS and the torque a high 150 Nm. The hydraulic steering unit will be replaced by a newgeneration electric power steering. Word goes round that this unit will also come in a petrol version later on.
There will be no cosmetic changes in the new variant apart from the badging that will indicate the diesel engine. We have heard that ARAI’s fuel-effi ciency fi gure for this car is 24 km per litre, which is, as always, a little too optimistic. But one may safely expect the car to return 17 to 18 kpl in real world driving conditions. Car India will be driving the new Beat in the second week of July and hence our readers may expect a complete review of this car in the following issue of the magazine. Though there is no indication about the price as yet, the diesel Beat can be expected to be dearer by Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 than the petrol variant, which is priced between Rs 4.06-4.81 lakh (OTR, Pune).
