Toyota have officially confirmed their entry in the World Rally Championship (WRC) from 2017.
The Japanese auto major, a leading manufacturer globally, have confirmed that their motorsport division Toyota Motorsport GmbH, will return to the FIA World Rally Championship in 2017, 18 years after their last rally in 1999, contending with a Yaris WRC car developed and built entirely at their technical centre in Köln, Germany.
The base was formerly used for their Formula 1 programme, with Toyota being a part of F1 from 2002 to 2009. The Toyota rally team will continue development and testing over the next two years. The Yaris WRC is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder motor with more than 300 PS.
Eric Camilli has been selected for testing duties, alongside Stéphane Sarrazin and Sebastian Lindholm.
