BMW_X5_2014_1_webBMW have taken the wraps off their all-new X5 which extends the list of choices for buyers.

The X5 was one of the most popular models when it first launched, notching up huge numbers globally, especially in the US. The new 3rd-generation model hopes to replicate the success the company enjoyed when the original model debuted.

So, you may ask, “what’s new in the new X5?” For starters, it’s received a different design which clearly identifies it as a new car. The front end has been completely overhauled and features larger, longer headlamps. The BMW kidney grille also has been reshaped into something leaner. The tail-lamps feature 3D LED strips and L-shaped lights with “aero blades” which help channel air to the roof spoiler, optimising aerodynamics. Underneath the skin, you get the new 8-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s ECO PRO mode, which helps maximise efficiency using the extra ratios.

The engine line too see some changes, while there is also an all-new variant. The new X5 has been launched with a choice of the N55 3.0-litre, TwinPower Turbo straight-6 petrol in the 35i and N63 4.4-litre, TwinPower Turbo V8 in the 50i. The 35i still makes 306 PS and 400 Nm of torque, but for the very first time, BMW is also offering an sDrive rear-wheel-drive only variant, alongwith the xDrive variant with intelligent-all-wheel-drive. The X5 xDrive 50i now packs 450 PS and 650 Nm of torque. The xDrive 35d receives a new 3.0-litre, TwinPower Turbo straight-6 diesel engine which dishes out 258 PS and 560 Nm of torque. There will also be a new 25d variant which will use the 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel with 218 PS and 450 Nm.

BMW will also offer the xLine, Luxury Line and M Sport trim levels to help choose an exterior appearance for the car which best suits your lifestyle. With BMW India in the hunt for number one spot in the country’s luxury car arena, expect them to bring in the new model in the coming months.BMW_X5_2014_2_web
