Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance is the second-most expensive four-cylinder car in India, coming in just after the Lexus LM.
When you think of AMG, what comes to mind are thundering V8 engines, which AMG have used to great effect in atmospheric, supercharged and turbocharged form over the years. AMG have made a few four- and six-cylinders, but until recently, a four-cylinder AMG was not that common. But now, thanks to the M139I engine, Mercedes have created a four-cylinder AMG C-Class, and on the C 63 S E Performance, they have turned things up to eleven.
The result of this is that the C 63 S E Performance is the most expensive car in India with a sub-2.0-litre engine, and the second most expensive car with a four-cylinder engine (after the Lexus LM). The M139I is the world’s most powerful production four-cylinder engine, which is saying something.
This engine, in the C 63 S E Performance is aided by an electrically-assisted turbocharger, and total system outputs stand at 680 hp and 1,020 Nm. It takes off from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, putting the power to the ground via AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G nine-speed transmission and all four wheels. Top speed is 280 km/h (limited). The electric motor alone is capable of delivering 150 kW, and Mercedes claim the system was derived from Formula 1.
That kind of performance costs a pretty penny, though, as the price for this one is Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom). You could save quite a lot of money by opting for the non-E Performance variant of the AMG-powered C-Class, with the “base” C 43, which costs Rs 98.25 lakh (ex-showroom), or you could buy two of those for the price of one C 63 S E Performance. Almost half the price, but not half the performance, as that one comes with 408 hp, 500 Nm, a o-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (limited).
Below is a picture of the last real C 63 S, with a proper V8 engine from 2019, enjoy!
