Mercedes-Benz have taken the wraps of the bold and extremely gorgeous all-new S-Class Coupé Concept – the successor to the CL-Class – and it is indeed a jaw-dropper.
The new car borrows front end design cues from the S-Class Saloon, which arrived earlier this year, while bringing in flowing lines, curves and shapes almost unconceived in the automotive world before. If the production model looks anything like this concept, it will be unlike any otherhigh-end luxury coupe on the market.
The S-Class Coupé Concept is based on the generous S-Class platform and thus measures 5,050mm long, 1,958mm wide and 1,409mm high, riding on a 2,945mm wheelbase; only slightly smaller than the current CL-Class. However, the interior and cabin will offer more luxury and equipmentand also bring in a host of active driver aids and safety systems.
When the S-Class Coupé does arrive, expect a similar selection of powertrains; twin-turbo-V8 500 and 63 AMG versions are imminent, with the possibility of the 500 Hybrid also not to be ruled out. The full-LED headlamps and the 21-inch wheels on the concept may just carry over to the production model as well. The CL-Class is presently about £95,000 (Rs 95 lakh) in the UK and we expect the new S Coupé to be priced along similar lines.
