Sandeep Kumar, the winner of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 Pro Category, will be debuting on the international stage at the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup 2013.
The young racer from Chennai has taken part in a five-day physical fitness training session at Oberjoch in Bavaria, Germany and has also faced his competition (19 young drivers from 11 nations) during the pre-season testing held at Oschersleben. Throughout the season, Sandeep will get the chance to interact with experienced motorsports legends and celebrity guest racers.
The Scirocco R-Cup is a one-make series (like the Polo R Cup) that is part of the DTM racing weekend, and the cars use environmentally friendly technology. Other than higher power and speed, the cars include a unique Push-to-Pass system that when engaged, increases the charging pressure of the turbocharged Scirocco engine and increases power output by 50.6 PS, offering more tactical options during the race and allowing for thrilling manoeuvres.
The first round of the Scirocco R-Cup 2013 will be held at Hockenheimon on 4th and 5th May, and the entire season comprises nine races at five circuits in Germany and Austria. Speaking about his impending debut, Sandeep said that he was pleased with his preparations and the challenging fitness camp. He also enjoyed the pre-season testing where he finished eighth-fastest, and the opportunity it afforded to get a feel of the Scirocco R-Cup race car.
