Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that it will shortly commence production of the Jaguar XF saloon at its plant in Pune, India.
The initial XFs built at Pune will mark the debut of JLR’s much-appreciated 2.2 litre diesel engine, and will be manufactured alongside the Land Rover Freelander 2 that has been built at Pune since 2011. The locally-manufactured XF 2.2 litre diesel will be equipped with a variety of features as standard, including an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission (standard across other petrol and diesel engine variants as well) claimed to offer better economy and acceleration and reduced emissions as compared to previous six-speed models, as well as gear shifting paddles, a rear view camera, TV tuner, a navigation system, front passenger seat away, touch screen, a full size spare wheel, an electric sunroof, and a rear screen electric blind.
Diesel engine options on the XF will include the acclaimed 2.2 litre i4 turbodiesel with a peak power output of 190 PS, peak torque of 450 Nm, and a top speed of 225 kph. There is also a 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel with a peak power of 275 PS, peak torque of 600 Nm, and a limited top speed of 250 kph. Petrol power comes from a 5.0 litre V8 supercharged all-alloy engine with a Roots-type twin-vortex intercooled supercharger, direct injection, and dual independent variable cam timing. It has a peak power output of 510 PS and peak torque of 625 Nm, with a limited top speed of 250 kph.
JLR India will launch the XF 2.2 diesel at a starting price of 44.5 lakh rupees (ex-showroom Mumbai, pre-octroi). The company notched up a 32% rise in its 2012 sales at 2,393 cars as compared to the 2011 figure of 1,813 cars.
