Home / News / After Land Rover Freelander 2, Jaguar XF may also be assembled in India too

Jaguar_XF_smallIt is not yet confirmed however, Tata Motors is considering assembling the Jaguar XF in India in order to offer it at a much affordable price.

Currently, the XF is imported as a CBU or completely built unit which attracts 75 percent custom duty. But if Tata Motors brings the XF into India through the CKD or completely knocked down route it will attract a much lower custom duty which in turn will bring down the XF’s price considerably. The main reason that has forced Tata Motors to consider assembling of the XF in India is the increase of 15 percent in the custom duties on CBUs which currently stands at 75 percent, whereas the duty on CKD cars is just 30 percent. Many manufacturers who bring in their luxury cars through the CBU route have been hit because of the increase in custom duties and Jaguar is one of them. Hence, assembling the XF in India seems to be a viable option for Tata Motors at the moment. And if Jaguar does start assembling the XF in India we might also see lower variants of the car that will equipped with a 2.2 litre diesel engine and would be available in the sub – Rs 40 lakh price range.
