Porsche unmask the Cayman GT4 Clubsport – a dedicated track-tool for motorsport newbies
Having an overachieving older cousin can be a pain growing up. And this relation can be likened to the one between the Cayman and the 911. When it debuted in 2006, the Cayman had no role in the company’s motorsport interests. However, things have changed for the poor man’s Porsche. The German automotive giant unmasked the Cayman GT4 Clubsport at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Not very unlike it’s production version, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is powered by the dry-sump 3.8-litre flat-six that sends peak power of 385 PS and 420 Nm through a race-spec six-speed PDK gearbox to a mechanical rear-axle with locking differential. The suspension is borrowed from the 911 GT3. To drop the anchors on this mean machine, Porsche employs 380-mm steel discs all around with six-piston callipers bringing the bite at the front and their four-piston equivalent do the job at the back. Wired around these is a 12-stage ABS set up. The ESP is now tuned for a more focused race-oriented outlook, and to accommodate the addition of slick tyres.
The standard tank holds 90 litres of fuel, however, if circuit racing is your thing, Porsche offers an optional 70-litre tank too. On the other hand if one considers endurance racing, a 100-litre tank is also a part of the catalogue. The Cayman GT4 Clubsport weighs all of 1300 kilos (which is 40 less than the production version) and features a roll-cage, bucket seat and six-point seatbelts.
Want to cause some track-mayhem in the Cayman GT4 Clubsport? Well you better be ready to write-up a cheque for €1,11,000 which would translate to Rs 78.63 lakh plus taxes, although the car isn’t available in India currently.
