Volvo Cars have revealed their third and final concept as promised, and have also introduced the new D4 engine in the V40.

Volvo have previously revealed the Concept Coupé and the Concept XC Coupé much to the delight of Volvo fans and safe car aficionados. They did promise three concepts and this – the Concept Estate – is the third and final one, for now. The Concept Estate exudes character like few other cars we’ve seen of late and the smooth lines and elegant, yet purposeful stance give it an aura which makes it extremely attractive and desirable. A tribute to Scandinavian luxury, the Concept Estate boasts bold proportions and an air of grace and confidence.

Inside, Concept Estate makes the most of simplicity, giving the driver high levels of comfort with cutting-edge technology for communication and entertainment, and, before we forget, safety. Gone are the many buttons and knobs and arriving on the scene is one large tablet like touch-interface, providing, literally, all the car’s functions at the user’s fingertips.

The Concept Estate will spawn the next-generation models of the erstwhile V70, and even the V60, if we dare to assume.

Volvo have also introduced their all-new D4 diesel engine. Displacing 2.0-litres and part of the new Driv-E line, formerly Volvo Engine Architecture, the new engine puts out 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque. That’s 5 PS more and the same torque compared to what their 2.4-litre inline-five turbo-diesel D5 put out as recently as four years ago. Nevertheless, the new engine is here to stay and it duly replaces a unit which has found itself beneath everything from the C line to the XC line of cars. The V40 and V40 Cross Country are the first to receive the new powerplant. With the manual transmission, the CO2 emissions are as low as 85g/km.

We wonder if they would arrive here, on account of the dismal quality of diesel fuel available around the country.
