Lamborghini continues its 50th anniversary celebrations by presenting the Veneno Roadster, an open racing prototype featuring extreme design and super sports performance.

The car is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine, from the Aventador, but tuned up to produce a maximum power of 750 PS. That’s enough to power it from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and all the way to a top speed of 355 km/h. With a dry weight of just 1,490 kg, the car has a power-to-weight ratio 503.35 PS/tonne. Transmission duties are served by an extremely fast-shifting seven-speed ISR (independent shifting rod) transmission with five modes, and the car is also equipped with permanent all-wheel drive and a racing chassis with pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units.

The Veneno Roadster has no roof and just a strong rollover bar for optimum safety. The design focuses on optimum aerodynamics and stability through fast corners with handling similar to that of a racing prototype but in a fully road-legal car. The front end works as a large aerodynamic wing, while the visual division of the rear fenders from the car body is a cue to the world of racing cars and serves to optimize the aerodynamic flow. The smooth underbody transitions into a substantial diffuser that frames the four exhaust pipes divided by a splitter. Large openings ventilate the engine bay and direct airflow to the adjustable rear wing.

The exclusive alloy wheels are also designed for aerodynamic functionality – a carbon-fiber ring around the wheel rim works like a turbine delivering additional cooling air to the carbon-ceramic brake discs. A customer can individualise his/her vehicle as per his preferences, including a choice of the ‘Rosso Veneno’ color exclusively developed for the Veneno Roadster.

The basis of the roadster is formed by a carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) monocoque, with all exterior parts also made from CFRP. The roadster also incorporates extensive safety systems including airbags and an adapted ESP handling system. The interior too is dominated by carbon fibre, with the monocoque visible around the central tunnel and the sills. Lamborghini’s patented Forged Composite is the material of choice for the two lightweight bucket seats, and woven carbon-fiber CarbonSkin clads the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner.

Just nine units of the Veneno Roadster will be built and sold at a price of, wait for it, €3.3 million (Rs 27.7 crore),and that’s excluding taxes.
