Datsun GO+ 5+2 MPV 1Datsun have announced a new MPV, badged the GO+, as a follow up to their to-be-launched small car, the Go.

The entry-car brand from the Renault-Nissan alliance is set to make a big comeback with its small offerings. While the Go hatchback will be positioned in the entry-compact segment with a length well under the 4-metre mark, the GO+ will offer 5+2 seating and will also fit within that length bracket, making it qualify for the benefits defined by India’s small car norms. At 3,995mm long, 1,635mm wide and 1,485mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,450mm, the GO+ will define the compact MPV segment, which until now has really been only the Maruti Omni, a car which defies safety regulations and denies basic protection like few other modes of transportation on the planet.

The GO+ is a robust, modern car with a sleek, dynamic silhouette and strong shoulder line making it very distinctive. With its compact dimensions, the car is a versatile and practical five-door three-row MPV with smart front-seating configuration. Furthermore, depending on the customers’ needs, will be offered with two extra seats in the back or with additional cargo space.

Both the Go and the GO+ will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with about 70 PS and paired to a five-speed manual transmission. A diesel option may just follow, but there’s no official word on that as yet. The pricing of both should be very competitive indeed. The Go hatchback will be targeted at first time car buyers while the Go+ will be aimed at young and joint families apart from offering a solution to customers across segments looking for a compact but practical offering at a good price point.

Carlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO, stated while unveiling the cars, “With the return of the Datsun brand, we are changing mobility. And we’re ensuring greater access to the pride, independence and opportunities that car ownership provides.  It’s exciting to know that, for many Indonesians, the first new car they buy will be a Datsun”.
