There’s a funny thing about Pagani Zondas. You think they’re gone and then suddenly, out of the blue, from a pitch black alternate dimension, there come some more!
This time round, it’s the Zonda R Evolution, and it’s even more limited than the last R. While the Zonda R had 15 examples going wild across the globe, the R Evolution has just 5.
The Pagani Zonda R Evolution was first shown at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed where it participated in the famous hillclimb. It is the evolution of the Zonda R, which was never street legal and never really met the sound limits of most race tracks either. By evolution, we obviously mean that it is wilder, meaner, quicker and even faster than the R and claws its way to a whole new level on the performance pedestal. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 M120 racing engine makes 800 PS in the Evolution, compared to the 750 PS it produced in the R. Mind you, even with 750 PS, it shattered the Nürburgring lap record with a time of 6 minutes 47.5 seconds; consider that many super- and hyper-car makers rejoice even when their creations hit a time close to 7 minutes. With 800 PS on tap, along with an improved weight distribution and a new set of aerodynamic parts, there is absolutely no doubt that the Zonda R Evolution will be an altogether different machine to pilot, while surely being even more ferocious, precise and unimaginably agile whatever it is that you decide to do with it.
If you’re wondering why this news piece is out now, it’s because the first Zonda R Evolution is ready for customer delivery. Four out of the five customer cars have already been spoken for. The asking price is € 1,760,000 (Rs 12.4 crore) excluding all taxes and duties.
