BMW have performed a rather quick facelift to their F10 5 Series and will shortly start delivering the new car globally.
At the turn of the decade, BMW had decided to create designs which would endure the changing desires of the premium car market and push the life cycles of each of their models. For 2014, the entire 5 Series family – the saloon, Touring and Gran Turismo models will receive a facelift which include cutting-edge technological updates and minimally updated design elements. This will be the first facelift for the 5 Series Gran Turismo, which was introduced back in 2009.
Some markets across Europe will see the introduction of an all-new entry-level variant of the 5 – the 518d – with the familiar 2.0-litre, TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel unit tuned to produce 143 PS and 360 Nm of torque, while being even more efficient than the unit in the 184-PS 520d.
The M5 has been around as a 2011 model and so the styling updates can be perceived as a sharpening of an already potent knife. The same 4.4-litre, Twin-Turbo V8 with 560 PS continues to duty, with the optional Competition Package taking that figure up to 575 PS.
On the technology front, the options list now includes Adaptive LED headlamps, in addition to the available Xenon headlamps. A glare-free HighBeam Assistant is also available as an option. There’s also an improved BMW ConnectedDrive system which brings in all the connectivity features you would need. A new Online Entertainment option gives you access to the multitude of tracks on an online music database. Safety gets a boost as well with a new Driving Assistant system, which combines a Lane Departure Warning system and Collision Warning with braking.
The 5-series is the longest-serving model in BMW’s line-up, currently in its sixth generation after being introduced back in 1972.
