Mahindra have upgraded their iconic off-roader, the Thar, with new stylistic changes to the exterior and the interior. But the main upgrade comes in the form of a mechanical locking rear differential, which helps to enhance the Thar’s off-roading capabilities.
On the exterior the Thar now gets new front and rear bumpers, wheel arches, side footsteps, clear lens headlamps and a re-designed canopy. Even though the Thar looks rugged on the outside, the interior does have a softer appeal. On the inside the Thar now sports new seats, a dual-tone dashboard, steering wheel, gear knob and A-C vents. Other changes include a re-designed centre console, a 3-pod instrument cluster, a lockable glove-box, and a new floor console with cup holders.
Apart from the cosmetic changes, the real deal is the addition of the mechanical rear diff-lock, which is an added feature that will help the Thar retain its legendary off-road capability. Priced at Rs 8.03 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), the refreshed Thar is set to take on the monsoon trail.
Commenting on the occasion, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive, (Automotive) Mahindra & Mahindra said, “Since its launch, the Thar has been the face of our tough and rugged DNA, a continuation of our legacy and what Mahindra stands for. Today as we launch the new avatar of this ever popular off-roader, the effort has been to enhance the appeal of a brand that is already a cult. Increasingly consumers are looking for a different lifestyle as they seek an adventure and fun experience and the Thar is the perfect companion for such thrill seekers. I am confident that in its new avatar, the Thar CRDe will not only continue to be ever popular among off-road enthusiasts but significantly widen its appeal amongst a whole new set of consumers.”
