The Volkswagen Polo’s 12-year voyage in India comes to an end with the release of this special farewell edition.

In India, the Volkswagen Polo is a very popular premium hatchback among car aficionados. The Polo was first produced in India in 2009, and it was unveiled during the 2010 Auto Expo. Polo has seen various small cosmetic and important mechanical modifications over the years. However, it is now being phased out, and Volkswagen has released the new Polo ‘Legend Edition’ in India to wave farewell to this ‘fun to drive’ hatchback.

Side body graphics, black trunk garnish, and black roof foil offer the newly released Volkswagen Polo Legend variant a sportier appeal. It also has ‘Legend’ edition badges on the front fender and the boot. The normal GT TSI variant’s other stylistic aspects have been kept. It’s worth mentioning that the Polo Legend edition is only available in limited quantities at 151 Volkswagen stores around the country.

The Polo’s manufacture began in 2009 and the vehicle was released in 2010. This was the company’s first locally built model, produced in Chakan, Pune. In 2014, the Polo was the first made-in-India hatchback in its segment to receive a four-star Global NCAP safety certification, making it the first made-in-India hatchback in its segment to have twin airbags as standard.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said “The Volkswagen Polo is an iconic carline that has evoked various emotions amongst consumers. From its market introduction to date, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed the privilege of being the first car for a family, an enthusiast’s dream and the preferred choice for a mother owing to its timeless and sporty design, safety, fun-to-drive experience and strong build quality. The Volkswagen Polo has been the brands’ much-loved product that deserves a grand celebration. For this, the brand is introducing the celebratory limited ‘Legend edition’ for the enthusiasts who will take pride in owning the last limited units of the iconic Polo.”

The new Volkswagen Polo Legend Edition is powered by the same 1.0-litre TSI engine used in other Polo models. It has a maximum power output of 113 hp and a peak torque output of 175 Nm. The engine, however, is only available with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The Volkswagen Polo Legend Edition honours the famous car’s 12-year journey in India. It’s also worth noting that this special goodbye edition will be limited to only 700 units.
