As reported earlier by us, Land Rover undertook an ambitious 16,000 Km plus adventure drive in their new Range Rover Hybrids from their plant in Solihull UK to Mumbai, here in India. This being a final, thorough road test before the engineering team finally green flags the car for production.

So far the team has traversed across land and sea and through a myriad of different conditions. Having travelled across the urban settings of modern Europe in the shape of France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, the convoy of Range Rover Hybrids then headed towards the Eastern Bloc in the form of Poland, Ukraine and finally Russia, from where it moved into to Asia with Kazakhasthan the next port of call. After this a trip through Uzbekistan and onwards to China followed.

Now the convoy has entered Nepal from China, and after making its way across The oriental nation, it is just about to enter India for the final leg of this mammoth journey. The Range Rovers have had to put up with incredibly diverse driving conditions in terms of traffic, quality of roads, and contrasting temperatures, the car’s response to all these transitions will help the engineering team in the fine tuning of the vehicle before it goes into production.

The Convoy is slated to arrive in Mumbai on the 15th of October, where the team and their Range Rover Hybrids will finally be able to call time on this epic journey. The car has already gone on sale in Europe since the 10th of September, with the first deliveries expected to be made in early 2014. The Range Rover boasts of a 3-litre SDV6 turbo diesel engine coupled with an efficient 35kW electric motor. Running on an 8-speed automatic transmission system, the powertrain produces 340PS and 700Nm torque, to achieve acceleration figures of 100 km/h in just below seven seconds, and a top speed of an impressive 218 km/h.
