Jaguar has revealed its first sports crossover, the C-X17 Concept. The C-X17 has been created to demonstrate the capabilities of the new aluminium architecture also announced by the company at the Franfurt Motor Show.
The car pushes the design envelope in the segment by combining sportscar character and driving experience with increased presence, style and flexibility. The C-X17 also showcases advanced interior technologies including Interactive Surface Console, a multi-screen infotainment network linking passengers with each other and to the outside world through social media channels.
Jaguar has also announced the use of next-generation lightweight technologies in the form of an all-new advanced aluminium monocoque architecture for its future models. The material is said to be lightweight and extremely stiff, and it incorporates innovative technologies in line with the company’s stated commitment to sustainability. The new lightweight architecture will be the base for a range of future vehicles, the first of which will be a mid-size premium C/D segment sedan expected to be launched in 2015. This would be the first aluminium monocoque product in the segment and is expected to be the most advanced, efficient and refined sports sedan in its class.
Power for the new range will come from high-output petrol and diesel engines to be built at JLRs new engine manufacturing facility in the UK, as well as the V6 petrol engine from the F-TYPE, claimed to provide best-in-class specific power output thanks to the lightweight architecture. These attributes will allow Jaguar to offer a wide variety of vehicles expected to feature high performance, top speeds over 300 kph (186 mph), and emissions under 100g/km of CO2.
