Porsche_911_50YE_1_webPorsche has announced that it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911 with a special edition of the iconic sportscar.

The 911 50 Years Edition is based on the Carrera S but will feature the body of the four-wheel-drive model, combining a wider body with the 400 PS, rear-wheel driveline.

The Porsche 911 was first launched in 1963 and since then, has famously carried on rather unchanged. The design stays true even to this day as one of the fastest, most usable cars around a town or a track. It is indeed fit for the 50 Years Edition to be the squat, rear-engined-rear-drive car the 911 has come to become hugely popular by. The naturally aspirated, 3.8-litre flat-6 engine happily revs up to deliver its power and with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed PDK automatic, the 911 50 Years Edition will find buyers from both sides. The Fuchs wheels with machine-polished centres are also reminiscent of the classic design, while the 44mm wider rear end provides a meatier silhouette. Distinguishing the 50 Years Edition further are the chrome strips over the engine cover and the red ’50’ badging below the 911 designation. Also offered as standard equipment are Porsche Active Suspension Management with Porsche Torque Vectoring and a rear limited slip differential to enhance handling characteristics in any situation in real-time. Porsche Communication Management and Satellite Navigation with a 4.6-inch colour touch screen is standard as well, as are the 14-way adjustable sports seats. The options list is reduced a bit further with automatic climate control, bi-xenon headlamps, a universal audio interface and a 3 year warranty offered as standard.

Only 1,963 examples of the 911 50 Years Edition will be built. The deliveries of the right-hand-drive version will begin in September. In the UK, prices start from £92,257 (Rs 77.5 lakh), with a complimentary course from the Porsche Experience Centre at the Silverstone race circuit, for buyers who wish to explore the capabilities of their new acquisition.Porsche_911_50YE_2_webPorsche_911_50YE_3_webPorsche_911_50YE_4_web
