The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has grown from an electronics and telecom show to an event that plays host to auto manufacturers and is a proving ground for their latest R&D developments. Ford, this year, announced a smart mobility plan to address transportation challenges globally and have also lined up 25 global experiments to resolve the same. Of the 25 experiments, eight will be conducted in North America, nine in Europe and Africa, seven in Asia and one in South America.
The Share-Car project, to be initiated in Bengaluru, will also be a part of these experiments. The study will provide a model for easy vehicle sharing among members of small communities like office workers, apartment dwellers among others.
Furthermore, Ford also touched upon their efforts in the autonomous vehicle research area. As of now, the company sells semi-autonomous vehicles capable of parallel parking, emergency braking and speed adjustment.
Commenting on the fully autonomous vehicle, Raj Nair, Chief Technical Officer and Vice President, Global Product Development at Ford said, “There will be a Ford autonomous vehicle in the future, and we take putting one on the road very seriously.”
With these modern transportation strategies, Ford aim to revolutionise the automotive industry and change the way the world moves.
