BMW UK have launched the 2 Series Active Tourer in petrol and diesel guise starting from £22,125 (Rs 22 lakh).
The 2 Series Active Tourer is the latest launch from BMW in the UK and is priced extremely competitively, taking on cars like the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, which offer badge value as well as everyday practicality in spades.
The 2 Series is the first BMW to be offered with front-wheel drive, and liberates a lot of space which reflects in the spacious cabin and large boot. The car measures 4,342mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,586mm high and runs a 2,670mm wheelbase. Efficiency also takes a turn for the better, with Eco Start-Stop and brake energy regeneration packed in as standard. The car is available in 218i and 218d choices for now.
The 218i sports the 1.5-litre, TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder motor backed by Double VANOS, Valvetronic and high-precision injection. The motor first debuted in the new MINI Cooper. In the 218i, it makes 136 PS and 220 Nm of torque.
The 218d is the diesel model, packing a 2.0-litre TwinPowerr Turbo four-cylinder motor. This one delivers 150 PS and 330 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual is standard, with an optional Steptronic automatic also on offer. A more powerful 225i (not 220i or 228i…) armed with a 231 PS/350Nm 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol motor, as well as a more powerful diesel, the 220d, with 190 PS and 400 Nm, will be available soon.
We hope to see the new 2 Series Active Tourer in India soon, as well as the exciting new 2 Series Coupé (read M235i, which steps in as the replacement for the erstwhile 1M Coupé!).
