Home / Home / Re-generation Sixth-gen Fiesta India-bound

The latest iteration, which has just gone into production internationally, will be here in 2011. Of course, it may not be called Fiesta, given that an existing model from the company already carries that moniker. Whether Ford coin an all-new name for the car in India or pick one from their existing range is unclear at the moment, but we’ve heard it whispered that ‘Falcon’ is under consideration.

The new Fiesta is built on Ford’s new international B-platform, which also underpins the Mazda 2. The engine is a revised version of the 1.6-litre Duratec, dubbed Ti-VCT (twin-independent variable cam timing). This engine produces 122 PS at 6,300 rpm with the max torque of 152 Nm being generated at a relatively high 5,000 rpm. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard with the option of a six-speed automatic. For now, there is no word on whether a diesel variant will be offered, although Ford could use a Mazda-sourced 1.6-litre turbodiesel, rated at 90 PS and 212 Nm of torque.

The new car will be produced at Ford’s Chennai facility with the price range starting at Rs 7 lakh for the base version and going up to Rs 9 lakh for the fully loaded automatic one.
