The new Volkswagen Polo marks the renewal of one of the world’s most successful compact cars. As is fitting, VW have now unveiled the next evolutionary stage.
There has been a comprehensive update to the design, technologies and specification of the new Volkswagen Polo; evident from the first glance. It’s cleaner, more modern and premium looking than ever before. More importantly, the range of standard equipment has also been expanded significantly and now includes “IQ.Light” LED matrix headlights and LED tail-light clusters, a Digital Cockpit, infotainment system, and a multifunction steering wheel, among other things.
The new Volkswagen Polo has technologies previously reserved for more premium vehicle classes. There is the optional assist system IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist which is available for the first time in the Polo. This system combines the new predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist to enable partly automated driving.
Inside, the new Volkswagen Polo features a slew of new equipment such as the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro with map view, background lighting and the 8.0-inch Infotainment system Ready2Discover, which includes App-Connect Wireless, a premium Composition Media audio system with a 6.5-inch monitor, and a Bluetooth smartphone interface.
We expect to see the new Volkswagen Polo, built on the MQB A0 IN right here in India, with a choice of three- and four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engines on offer. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine could be offered in both naturally-aspirated guise, with 76 hp and 95 Nm, or TSI guise with 110 or even 115 hp and 175 Nm. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected for. The GT could well feature the 1.5 TSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm, paired to the quick seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. Of course, this is speculative at this point, but do not discount the inclusion of a torque-rich turbo-diesel version when emission norms tighten even further.
