Mercedes-Benz India have introduced the locally-assembled GLC-Class luxury SUV starting from Rs 47.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The GLC-Class is a new addition to the Indian portfolio. It’s global precedessor was the GLK-Class that was offered only in left-hand-drive markets. The new GLC, launched just four months ago only in one trim – Edition 1 – for both the petrol and the diesel engine models, now becomes the ninth model to be made in India at the brand’s facility in Chakan. It is the only place in the world that puts out the MFA-platform compact cars (CLA and GLA), sedan (C, E and S) and SUVs (GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS) under one roof. It is also the only place outside the USA that they are manufacturing their SUV lines.
The GLC is available as a 220 d with the 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine making 170 PS and 400 Nm in two trims: Style, at Rs 47.90 lakh, and Sport, at Rs 51.50 lakh. The petrol version is the GLC 300, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol making 245 PS and 370 Nm, available in one trim, Sport, at Rs 51.90 lakh, all ex-showroom Delhi. All three cars sport the company’s new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission driving the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
Mercedes-Benz have also announced their service packages starting at just Rs 62,000 for the petrol and Rs 78,000 for the diesel. The GLC looks set to take on the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and Land Rover Discovery Sport with its attractive new price-tag and choice of trims.
