The BMW iX1 has been spotted in the final stages of testing and if, or when, it reaches our shores, it is likely to be the most accessible EV from the German manufacturer.
The third-generation BMW X1 should be launched in the coming months but one model in the new line-up has captured our attention; the BMW iX1. The electric iX1 will be powered by the BMW eDrive technology and testing is in full swing in Arjeplog, Sweden. As per WLTP, the iX1 claims a range of 413-438 km but these figures could change in the final production model. BMW say that the iX1 will be equipped with their latest advancements in battery tech that optimizes heat management to provide short charging times and long range. There are two electric motors, one at the front axle and the other at the rear; co-ordinated electronically to provide maximum traction and performance. Details on the power output and other specifications have not been revealed at the moment but we expect variants with around 110 kW (150 hp) and 150 kW (204 hp).
The iX1 follows in the footsteps of the flagship SUV, the iX, and the iX3 above it. In addition to the iX1, BMW were also putting the third-gen X1 models (IC engine and plug-in hybrid) through their paces. All models’ powertrain and chassis systems were put to the test. Not surprising considering that all these cars are made on the same assembly line thanks to their flexible modular vehicle architecture. We can expect this new range of the X1 to make their global debut later this year.
