Audi has commenced production of the luxury Q7 SUV at its Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra, with a planned annual output of 1,000 Q7s for India. This will be Audi’s fourth model manufactured in India, after the A4, A6 and Q5.
The Q7 will be produced at a new 20,000 square metre hall at Skoda’s plant in Aurangabad, where the Q3 will also be produced from mid-2013 onwards. Local production is expected to reduce waiting times and make available a wider range of versions. Audi’s India sales grew to 7,273 units in the first 10 months of 2012, a growth of 55%, which also surpassed its total sales for the previous year (5,511 units). The company’s plans also include a 25-dealer-strong network network by end-2012, to sell the A4, A6, A7 Sportback, A8 L, Q3, Q5, Q7, S4, RS 5 Coupé, TT Coupé, and the R8 and R8 Spyder supercars.
