Porsche have introduced the new 911 Carrera GTS models for those who want more than a Carrera, but not GT3 more.
The new 911 Gran Turismo Sport quadruplets – the Carrera GTS, Carrera 4 GTS, Carrera GTS Cabriolet and Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet – receive a bump in power, from 400 to 430 PS, with the Sport Chrono package as standard. The ‘4’ models also receive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) as standard. The choice of 7-speed manual or Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (7PDK) continue to be offered.
The exterior differences on the GTS models are the flared wheel arches, wider track and 20” wheels in matte black with centre-locking wheel nuts. The Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS)-equipped smoked bi-xenon headlamps complement the design further. The package is rounded off with black ‘GTS’ lettering on the rear and black chrome exhaust pipes.
The 3.8-litre flat-six motor also delivers the same efficiency as in the Carrera S models, with 11.5 km/l achievable with the 7PDK rear-drive model. Performance is more than brisk enough, with 0-100 km/h coming up in 4 seconds for the Coupé, and 4.2 for the Cabriolet. The manual transmission, rear-drive only GTS can get to a top speed of 318 km/h.
Prices for the 911 Carrera GTS start from just over £91,000 (Rs 91 lakh), going up to £104,385 (Rs 1.04 crore) for the Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet in the UK. The lucky new owners will also be able to explore the potential of their new car by participating in a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre in Silverstone. The Porsche 911 range in India will be joined by these four soon enough. At present, it includes the Carrera in standard, 4, S and Cabriolet combinations, Targa 4 and 4S and GT3 variations.
