The new Toyota Agya is what the hatchback could well be called after the design was recently filed to be patented in India.

The Toyota Agya design seems to have been inspired by the Perodua Axia that was introduced in the Indonesian market last year. The potential hatchback design notably features the hexagonal front grille with a large opening, triangular fog-lamp housings, sleek headlamps, alloy wheels and a sporty body kit that is popular in South-east Asian markets.

The Japanese major is keen on bringing in electric vehicles (EV) in the future and though the real reason behind patenting the Agya design is not clear, it is rumoured that the Toyota Agya could be an EV in India. Multiple variants of the Perodua Axia are sold in Indonesia, namely, the 1.0 G, 1.2 G and 1.2 G TRD. The 1.0 G is driven by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine producing 67 hp and 89 Nm of torque while the other two variants have the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with power figures of 88 hp and 108 Nm of peak torque. Customers can choose from a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic one.

The Toyota Agya will bear an upright single-piece hatch somewhat similar to the Etios Liva. Similarly, a roof-mounted spoiler, tail lamps with L-shaped graphics, an aggressive bumper and chrome trim along with blacked-out portions at the bottom might be included to give the Toyota Agya a sportier stance.

Other features that might be seen in the Toyota Agya include a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted media and phone controls, engine start/stop button, and with the now mandatory dual front airbags and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), among other features.
