Home / Home / New Mitsubishi Concepts for Tokyo 2013

Mitsubishi_concepts_1_webJapanese automobile titans Mitsubishi have announced the unveiling of three brand new concept designs at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show which will take place from the 23rd of November to the 1st of December this year.

Mitsubishi are embarking on a brand new direction design vise, and what better place to introduce car enthusiasts the world around to these new designs than from their home turf – Tokyo.

With this launch, Mitsubishi seems to going back to its SUV roots, as all 3 vehicles on display follow in the footsteps of its celebrated off-road lineage.

The first car from the line up is the Concept Grand Cruiser or GC-PHEV, a full sized SUV that flies in the face of its traditionally fuel guzzling image by sporting a next gen Plug-in Hybrid plant. The car’s handling and multi terrain capabilities will be boosted by Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, and the Grand Cruiser will also boast advanced safety and driver support features through Mitsubishi’s ‘connected car’ wireless technology.

Next up is the X over Runner, or XR-PHEV for short, and as is hinted by the name, this is a crossover concept. Expect it to sport a highly efficient plug-in Hybrid as well, and follow the burgeoning trend of environmentally conscious, scaled-down compact SUVs out there.

Rounding up the list is the Active Runabout, and if the name has left you scratching your head, this one’s a compact MPV. Mitsubishi claim this Concept AR marries the go-anywhere ability of SUVs with spacious MPV style interiors, and will be powered by a responsible, toned down direct injection turbocharged engine.

Detailed specifications are not forthcoming as yet, but judging by the teaser images the new design is quite tasty, and should set tongues wagging with all those sharp lines and that futuristic visage.Mitsubishi_concepts_2_web
