Australia is the first market in the world to receive the production version of the much sought after Polestar S60.
Polestar have 17 years of motorsport experience and the new S60 Polestar shares its DNA with the 508 PS concept the company had developed earlier.
“We have built a car that we, as car enthusiasts, want to drive,” says Christian Dahl, Managing Director of Polestar. “This is a driver’s car, bringing out the very best of the already competent Volvo S60 chassis with our experience and technology from motorsport. We received a fantastic response to our Volvo C30 and S60 Polestar concept cars, so we are very happy to now introduce our first production car to the Australian market. This is an important step forward for Polestar, one that promises an exciting future.”
Polestar has created the production car taking the best bits from the stock S60 T6 AWD model and their concept car. The S60 T6 Polestar features dampers from Öhlins, high performance brakes, and an extensively developed and highly-tuned chassis. A new aerodynamic package has also been developed, including a front splitter, rear wing and diffuser; all having been tweaked and modified in the Volvo wind tunnel in collaboration with their R&D team.
The turbocharged, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine has been optimised by Polestar with a bigger turbo, new intercooler, revised engine mapping and a racing exhaust to produce 350 PS at 5,700 rpm and over 500 Nm of torque from just 2,800 rpm. It uses a Polestar-tuned Haldex 4WD system driven by a Polestar-tuned six-speed automatic transmission, which also features a launch control system. The S60 Polestar accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and has an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h.
There will be a limited production run of just a 100 cars. We hope Volvo Auto India get a few here as well!
