Ameo compact-sedan marks Volkswagen India’s entry into the highly competitive segment
Volkswagen India have launched their much-awaited compact sedan the Ameo at a price tag of Rs 5.24 lakh (ex-Delhi). Currently, only petrol variants are available; launch of the diesel variant is slated for a later date. The Ameo petrol comes in three variants, the base version called Trendline (Rs 5.24 lakh), mid-variant called Comfortline (Rs 5.99 lakh) and top-spec variant called Highline (Rs 7.05 lakh). All these variants are powered by Volkswagen’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 75 PS and 110 Nm. This is the same engine that is seen under the hood of the Polo hatchback.
Safety wise, all the variants come with twin-airbags and ABS as standard. However, ESP or Electronic Stability Program, is available on higher-spec variants that come with DSG. The top-end variant also comes with features which, prior to this, were only seen in higher segments. It features stuff like cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and automatic climate control.
