JT Special Vehicles, borne of this 50:50 partnership, will bring aspirational passenger cars to the Indian consumer.
It has been a long ride since Tata Motors brought us India’s first completely indigenous car, the Indica, and the company is now looking to up the ante by developing performance-oriented vehicles alongside Jayem Automotives.
Jayem Automotives is an independent automotive technology developer involved in design, development, testing and manufacturing automotive components, systems and prototypes. Their motorsports division, JA Motorsports, is actively involved in the development of MRF2000 Formula race cars, as well as the F1600 racers, and now Tata Motors’ passenger cars will also benefit from their expertise, as they work together towards performance and appearance enhancements of Tata vehicles. The new company, JT Special Vehicles, will work towards developing a range of performance vehicles, with design, precision machining, assembly and testing all at a new manufacturing unit in Coimbatore.
Announcing this JV, Guenter Butschek, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Motors, said, “We are delighted to partner with Jayem, a brand known for its capabilities in concept creation and prototyping of special performance vehicles. This partnership is a step towards creating long-term relationships as a part of our transformation journey and to bring more exciting performance variants to our product range”
J Anand, Managing Director, Jayem Automotives, said, “We are excited about our joint venture with Tata Motors and to be a part of their transformation journey. We aim to bring World Class Performance Products to market in a short time, and to fulfil expectations of passionate customers in the niche segment of sportier cars.”
